Free to Explore. Free to Play. Free to Feel Inspired.

That’s how the creators of Citygarden in downtown Saint Louis define the ambitious and spectacular 2.9 acre sculpture and landscape public garden on the Gateway Mall. The City Garden is located on the two blocks between Eighth and Tenth and Chestnut and Market Streets.

This transformational area in the heart of downtown features modern and contemporary sculpture, landscapes (in partnership with the Missouri Botanical Garden), reflecting pools, a cafe and a wonderful fountain plaza that kids will spend hours playing in during warm Saint Louis summer days and nights.

The park is laid out in three “bands” that represent the geographic features of the region: The Northern River Bluffs Band, The Middle Floodplain Band, and The Southern River Terrace Band.

The accessibility of Citygarden is what will make it a treasure in Saint Louis.

The space is within a couple of blocks of Busch Stadium and the Arch and will give visitors, workers and those of us who live in the area a place to read, relax, and enjoy an oasis in the heart of the city.

Citygarden proclaims itself rightfully as a place where you won’t find walls or fences, admissions fees or do not touch signs, because at Citygarden you are always free!

As I’ve quickly learned since moving here officially in January, St. Louis is a city of great neighborhoods. After looking in several areas I found it an easy choice to move downtown joining the thousands who have already made the jump to the Washington Avenue Loft District.

I’ve always felt that a strong and vibrant downtown reflects the strength of a region. After nearly four months here I can’t imagine living anywhere else. From the amazing architecture to easy walking access to all the amenities needed (looking forward to that grocery store coming later this year) to keep the car in the garage for days at a time.

So, welcome to My Neighborhood – the Loft District in St. Louis. I know a great coffee shop right around the corner.
